CANVASAUCTION SITE PROCEDURE

SITE TERMINOLOGY

GUIDE PRICE
Pictures will be offered for sale showing a GUIDE PRICE - this is similar to an auctioneer's initial starting price.
STATUS
Initially the STATUS column will show Reserve. The Reserve Price will not be visible to the member. When the Reserve Price has been reached or passed, the status column in the bid form is changed from Reserve to Selling.
BID SUCCESSFUL
When a painting is 'Selling' and the last bid has been in place for 48 hours the STATUS column will change from 'Selling' to 'Hammer Down'. The 'Time to Hammer Down' column will show the time left from the last bid to 'Hammer Down Time'. When Hammer Down has been reached the Hammer Down column will show SOLD. No more bids will be accepted for the painting. Negotiations by Email will then commence for payment and delivery to the successful member.
MINIMUM BID The minimum acceptable bid will be 2% above the previous bid. The minimum bid figure will be shown when the bid is offered. Bids less than the minimum bid will be rejected.
NOT SOLD
Should a painting fail to meet its Reserve Price within a reasonable time the status column will change from RESERVE to NOT SOLD. The painting will be either offered again for auction at a later date or withdrawn.
NICKNAME
On registering to join Canvasauction members will choose a NICKNAME. As the auction proceeds members will be referred to only by their NICKNAME.
ARCHIVES
An Archive Gallery of some passed auction sales is maintained for inspection. The member's nickname will not be shown in these Archives unless the member specifically requests us to do so.
CURRENCY
All prices will be shown in £ (pounds sterling).
All bid offers by members must be in £ (pounds sterling). For payments exchange rates will be based on the figures shown in the British Financial Times at the time of the successful bid. Should this be a non-publishing date then the exchange rates will be based on the next publication. The site is provided with a link to the British Financial Times Currency Conversion for members convenience.
COST
The cost of the painting will be the final bid price. No additional buying premiums will be added.
VAT (Value Added Tax.) Ref: HM Customs and Excise.
Margin VAT will be paid by Canvasauction, the purchaser will not be paying VAT.
If a VAT invoice is required to reclaim VAT, then the full rate of 17.5 % will be added.
DELIVERY & INSURANCE
The cost of delivery and insurance will be added to the purchase price.
Any import tax due on goods entering into your country will be the responsibility of the member.
PAYMENTS.
Canvasauction must receive payment in full before goods are despatched. Payment to be by cheque, bankers draft, BACS or other electronic transfer. The method of payment will be agreed by Email between Canvasauction and the successful bidding member.
MEMBERS INPUT
We welcome members comments on procedures and the organisation of the Canvasauction Web Site. Please Email any suggestion with your nickname through the Contact Page.
CONDITIONS of MEMBERSHIP
Membership will be withdrawn for any misuse or attempt at site interference .

Canvasauction reserve the right to withdraw membership should the site be used for reasons other than browsing or participating in the auction to bid and purchase paintings.
Canvasauction reserve the right to withdraw membership at any time.

PURCHASE PROCEDURE
DELIVERY Members must check the condition of goods on delivery. Canvasauction must be notified immediately of any damage due to transportation, using the site ‘CONTACT US' facility. A full description of the damage, the time of delivery, and the name of the transport company and their representative together with details of any delivery receipt should be included.
CONDITION OF PAINTINGS
Paintings are offered with description of the condition with due consideration to age. Members must base their bids on the information given and the photographic images provided.
Bid price should be based on the painting and not the frame.
When the picture has a frame the frame condition will be indicated in the description as follows:-
GOOD = Sound with no blemishes.
FAIR = Sound with some blemishes.
POOR = Damaged and chipped.
VERY POOR = Extensive damage
with breaks.
If the painting has suffered damage in transport the buyer must inform Canvasauction within one week of receiving the painting.
Canvasauction will not be responsible for the condition of paintings where the description and photographic image has been provided and is considered to be accurate.
Should the buyer have any complaints when the painting has been delivered the buyer must inform Canvasauction within one week of receiving the painting.

The decision of Canvasauction will be final in assessing painting descriptions. Where the description is shown to be wholly inaccurate and Canvasauction agrees, the painting must be returned to Canvasauction in the condition that it was received and at the member's expense.

The painting must be adequately packaged to prevent damage, insured and despatched by a reputable transport company. After examination by Canvasauction and provided that no additional damage has been sustained the painting will be re-auctioned.
The member will be reimbursed up to the buyers bid price less the cost of making good any additional damage.
MEMBERS PAINTING
Conditions of acceptance for paintings offered by members

Only original paintings will be accepted for auction.

Prints, Photographs, Etchings, Linocuts, Stencilled work are not acceptable.

Members placing art work on the Canvasauction site must supply the following information:-

The name of the artist.
Does it have the date ?
Is it signed ?
What is the medium ( Is it Oil on canvas? Water colour? Pastel? Mixed Media? Tell us what it is)
What is the size of the painting ?
What is the minimum reserve price in?(UK Pounds GBP) that you will accept?

Send us a photograph.

Photographs must be a true image of the painting and not enhanced. photographically or digitally in any way.

We shall seek the members agreement before fixing the reserve price.

For a painting to be considered for auction it must have artistic merit.

  • The reserve price has to be realistic.
  • The painting must be the legal property of the member.

  Canvasauction reserve the right to refuse any paintings considered not suitable for auction.

When the buyer has completed a successful bid the owner of the painting will be notified of the bidders address.

The owner of the painting will arrange for the transportation and insurance and inform Canvasauction of the cost.

Canvasauction will collect the bid price, transportation and insurance price from the successful bidder.

The owner of the picture will then dispatch the picture.

When the picture has been safely delivered and the successful bidder is satisfied, the final purchase price less the commission and any money transfer cost will be sent to the original owner.

  SELLERS COMMISSION
Canvasauction will deduct a seller's commission on the final hammer down price as scheduled :-

20% from the first £1000 of hammer down price
15% the next £4000
10% above £5000

Canvasauction reserve the right to revise commission from time to time to meet economic trends and maintain Canvasauctions economic feasibility.

BUYERS EXPENCES
No additional commission will be paid by the successful buyer.
The successful buyer will be responsible for the cost of packaging, delivery and insurance.
Canvasauction will be responsible for organizing transportation and insurance of paintings to the successful buyer.
The painting will not be dispatched until full payment for the picture and expenses have been received by Canvasauction

The following artists descriptions are the opinions of Canvasauction and must not be taken as absolute fact. Canvasauction will consult and research with experts that we choose in the relative subject, to insure the best reliability of any descriptions.
Descriptions with the artists name are in our opinion the work of the artist named.
Other descriptions are as follows: -
‘ATTRIBUTED to.' Is in our opinion probably the work of the artist.
‘STUDIO of.' Is in our opinion from the studio of the artist and may or may not be under his direction.
‘CIRCLE of.' Is in our opinion the work of the period and painted with the artist's strong influence.
‘FOLLOWER of.' Is in our opinion the work of the period or later in the style of the artist.
‘MANNER of.' Is in our opinion a work in a similar style to the artist, but of a later date.
‘SCHOOL.' Is in our opinion the picture was painted at a place or country indicated, e.g. “ English school”
‘AFTER.' Is in our opinion a copy of the artists work.
‘SIGNED.' Is in our opinion any signature and date is by the named artist.
‘BEARS a SIGNATURE.' We are of the opinion the artists name or date is not that of the artist and has been added by another hand.
DIMENSIONS are shown with height first followed by width and shown in both inches and centimetres.
e.g.75 X 100ins (190.5 X 254cms).
